The
community of St Joseph’s Interdiocesan Seminary, Mangalore, joyfully celebrated
Theologians’ Day with great spiritual fervor and cultural vibrancy, bringing
together the theological students and staff in a spirit of unity, gratitude and
reflection.
The
day commenced with the Holy Eucharist at 6:30 am, solemnly presided over by
Most Rev. Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza, Bishop Emeritus of the Diocese of
Mangalore. In his homily, the bishop emphasized the importance of deep-rooted
formation of the heart, urging the seminarians to grow in humility, faith, and
hope as future ministers of the Church. The liturgy was prayerfully organized
by the theological community, drawing the whole seminary into a spirit of
thanksgiving for the journey of theological formation.
The
highlight of the celebration was a colourful cultural programme in the evening,
creatively presented by the theologians from different years of formation.
Through songs, skits, dances, and thought-provoking performances, the students
expressed their talents, theological insights, and shared joyful fraternity.
The programmes reflected themes of faith, vocation, service and the challenges
of priestly life with humour and depth.
Each
batch contributed uniquely, and the entire celebration was a manifestation of
the vibrant community life and the creative spirit that animates the
theological section of the seminary.
Following
the Programme, the Message of the Day was delivered by Rev. Dr Joseph Martis,
former Rector and now Guest Lecturer of the Seminary. In his inspiring address,
he reflected on the theme “Hearts Formed, Hope Ignited,” reminding the
seminarians that theological formation is not merely academic but a profound
transformation of the heart. He invited the future priests to be witnesses of
hope in today’s challenging world by anchoring themselves in Christ and being
men of prayer, compassion, and service.
The
celebration of Theologians’ Day 2025 was a moment of grace and fraternity,
offering the seminary community a time to reflect, rejoice, and renew their
commitment to priestly formation. The theme “Hearts Formed, Hope Ignited”
resonated deeply throughout the day’s events, reminding all present that the
heart of a theologian is one that must burn with the hope of Christ, ready to
illuminate the world.
